The Laurens County Sheriff's Department Traffic Enforcement Team strives to ensure the motoring public a safe journey throughout our region.  The traffic team consists of officers who take pride in professional and courteous service.

Traffic Team Officers are constantly alert for situations that create a hazard to you, your family or loved ones.  Officers are trained to recognize violators and promptly stop them.

Officers are required to work flexible shifts.  These shifts are comprised of many different responsibilities including a focus on impaired and aggressive driving, criminal activities, and speed enforcement.  Officers also assist the department in areas such as drug enforcement, search and rescue, high security details and warrant service/transport.

Traffic Officers are ranking personnel with many years of service in law enforcement prior to their selection for the traffic team.  Public Service is their goal.  They take your safety seriously and strive to make your trip through Laurens County a safe one.

Laurens County Deputies are responsible for an area of 850 square miles which includes over thirty miles of Interstate 16, as well as hundreds of miles of dirt roads.  Knowledge of Laurens County  is a must.  At times offenders take Officers on high speed chases and the officer must advise where he is and try to determine the nearest cross road  so responding Officers may assist in apprehending the offender.

Officers are sometimes faced with offenders fabricating stories concerning their destinations and their purpose in an area.  The Traffic Officer is constantly observing behavior and properties as he patrols the roads.

"Notice to Driving Public"

If an emergency vehicle approaches you from behind, always yield to the right.  If you are stopped by a patrol vehicle, gradually reduce your speed and come to a stop on the right hand side of the roadway.  You should never stop or park in the median unless it is the absolute last resort.  When approaching an emergency vehicle that is in the emergency lane, you should merge to the left.  If it is not possible to merge you should slow your speed below the posted speed limit.
